Preserving Environments

To maintain the environment, the adoption of defense programs is required. The Brazilian government and national and international private institutions have adopted some of these programs to defend nature. Are they:

- creation of areas for the protection and preservation of fauna and flora;
- treatment of industrial sewage to reduce pollution in rivers and seas;
- filtration of air pollutants;
- replacement of CFC gas with other less polluting gases.

To protect the many natural areas, the government has set up several conservation units, such as national parks, biological reserves, ecological stations and national forests.

The national parks, where nature has hardly been altered by man, are open for public viewing. Some examples of national parks are:

- Amazon National Park (PA);
- Brasilia National Park (DF);
- Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park (PE).

At biological reserves These are areas where the government guarantees the protection and maintenance of forests and other plant formations. It also serves to carry out scientific research. Examples of biological reserves are:

- Rocas Atoll Biological Reserve (RN);
- Serra Negra Biological Reserve (PE);
- Poço das Antas Biological Reserve (RJ).

At ecological stations may only have 10% of their modified extension. And only for scientific experiments. Examples are:

- Taim Ecological Station (RS);
- Jarí Ecological Station (PA);
- Juréia Ecological Station (SP).

At national forests These are areas of large plant resources that can be exploited by private companies, but there are some restrictions, some limits imposed. These limits are decided by the government. Examples are:

- Passo Fundo National Forest (RS);
- Ibirama National Forest (SC);
- Four-Pass National Forest (MG).
